The breed originated in England, in the 1800s. The prohibition of bull baiting and dog fights almost drove the breed to the point of extinction, but fanciers took efforts to salvage the dog. Now, these dogs are no longer designed for bloody scenes, and they are sweet and loving family companions.

These dogs come in solid white (the most preferable variation), fawn, brindle or combinations of those. There are Standard and Miniature varieties.
