Bull Terrier Picture

Bull Terrier picture galleries of the late 19th century feature strong, massive and fierce fighters. Actually, this breed was developed in an attempt to create an agile pit fighting dog that would attack bulls and dogs. Fortunately, bull baiting and pit fighting were banned in most countries and many fighting dogs have lost their popularity. Bull Terriers were not very successful in fights; they gained popularity as guards, watchdogs, ratters, herders and even hunters. Though still known as the gladiator of the canine race, this breed lacks aggression to humans and dogs.

In Bull Terrier picture galleries, you can see purebred dogs that vary in size and coat color. The AKC breed standard doesn’t strictly define the size of purebred dogs, because balance and proportions are more important. The wither height of the standard Bull Terrier varies between 20 and 24 inches (51 and 61 cm;) the height of the Miniature variety varies from 10 to 14 inches (25-33 cm) at the withers. The weight of full-sized dogs is about 45-80 pounds (20-36 kg;) miniature dogs weigh from 24 to 33 pounds (11 to 15 kg.)

A Bull Terrier picture is impossible to mistake for a picture of any other breed. The hallmark of the breed is its long, egg-shaped head. It’s flat at the top, with no stop and with a sloping “roman” muzzle. The eyes are triangle-shaped, small, and set close. The jaws of the Bull Terrier are massive and very strong. The body of the Bull Terrier is very muscular, robust, full, and round. The legs are well-boned and straight. The tail is moderately long, set low, and carried horizontally.

Contrary to common myths and misconceptions about this breed, the Bull Terrier is a friendly and gentle dog. It’s very intelligent, easy to train, and adapted to any lifestyle the owner prefers. These dogs can be fun and playful with children and quiet with the elderly. Bull Terriers are very protective, but are able to tell a friend from a foe. The best features of the breed develop only if a dog is given proper training and socialization. Those who bought a pet after seeing an attractive Bull Terrier picture are unlikely to become good owners for this breed.
